Government officials in South Florida are considering redesigning the mainland Miami neighborhood of Shorecrest by returning some developed areas to nature, rather than reinforcing them with sea walls. Despite its distance from Biscayne Bay, the neighborhood is regularly flooded with bay water during full moons when the tide is unusually high. The government is looking at buying homes from willing sellers in areas where flooding occurs most, removing the homes, and converting the space into a park that would hold water during storms and high tides.
