Creating Community Resilience in Every City

Local governments are taking action to build resilience in their communities. Cooper Martin of the National League of Cities explores some of the unique challenges and opportunities for cities addressing climate change. Smaller cities may lack resources and staff capacity. Cities of all sizes face obstacles in scaling their efforts, but there’s still a lot that can be done to replicate efforts. One important strategy for cities is to ensure sustainable development and resilience are city priorities, not just departmental ones. Another strategy is to give the public something specific to react to—like concrete actions or metrics—during the citizen engagement process, which will spark more productive conversations.
