According to a new study in the journal Nature, more than 2.5 million Miamians may be forced out of the city if sea levels rise 1.8 meters by 2100. Of the 796 cities in the study, Miami is expected to lose the most residents due to rising sea levels that make the city unlivable, crippling the local and regional economy. The cities that are expected to absorb these refugees will likely face insurmountable stress on local utilities if they do not prepare for the population influx.
