This week, the City of West Palm Beach is hosting the 32nd Annual Governor’s Hurricane Conference, which focuses on hurricane planning, preparedness, response, recovery, and mitigation. Beyond the conference, the county and its municipalities are taking proactive steps to respond to sea level rise and build resilience. As a member of the Southeast Florida Regional Climate Change Compact, Palm Beach County works to implement recommendations from the Regional Climate Action Plan and uses the Compact’s Unified Sea Level Rise Projection to guide local and regionally coordinated planning. According to Palm Beach County Mayor Melissa McKinlay, “In the absence of national or international policy direction, Palm Beach County is at the front line of adaptation and mitigation efforts to solve our own problems.”
